Irena Stanic Rasin

ABOUT

Irena Stanic Rasin is a writer, translator, and language and literature instructor who lives and works between Boston and Zagreb. She was born on January 23, 1967, in Slavonski Brod, Croatia, and grew up in Zagreb. She obtained her master’s degree in English and Italian language and literature from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Zagreb and her master’s in Italian from San Francisco State University. She is currently pursuing her PhD from the University of Zagreb.

Irena is the owner, writer, translator, and editor at Perlina Press, a small independent press dedicated to publishing educational books and materials for children that entice reading, play, and adventures in learning. The press also publishes books by prominent Croatian authors in English translation.

She is a co-founder of the Croatian School of Boston, which has been promoting the Croatian language and culture in the Metro Boston area since 2007. 

Irena is an active member of the communities where she lives and works. She was a co-recipient of the 2007 Annual George P. Faulkner Award for Outstanding Contribution to Youth. The award recognized her work as a co-founder and volunteer at the PTO Thrift Shop for the Arlington public schools, which in a few years raised over $160,000 to benefit Arlington’s nine public schools.

Irena’s professional memberships include the Committee for Education at the Association of Croatian American Professionals, Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, Independent Publishers of New England, Croatian Writers' Association, Croatian Society of Writers for Children and Youth, Matrix Croatica, and Croatian Academy of America.

In 2019, at the recommendation of the Croatian Heritage Foundation, Irena received the Order of the Croatian Interlace, awarded to her by the President of Croatia for advancing the progress and reputation of the Republic of Croatia, the welfare of its citizens, and the preservation of the identity of the Croatian community in Boston.
